Terra Samba A confluence of positive circumstances led to the publishing of the ninth CD by Terra Samba, titled “Show do Terra”, in November of 2003, issued through the Som Livre label. After selling more than three million copies of their recordings, Terra Samba continues to ride the wave of success in Brazil and finds itself for the fourth consecutive time on tour through Europe and the United States. “Xi do Terra Samba”, the CD issued in 2002 by the Abril Music label was pure adrenaline, as the tracks “Reboleio” (with a Spanish version) and “Boneco doido” clearly show, both representing big hits for the group. Now the group turns a dream into reality by bringing the music of “Show do Terra” to the stage. The repertoire not only includes own compositions, like Boneco Doido and Manteiga, but also big hits by other famous artists, like Malandragem, Palpite, Sonífera Ilha, Pot-Pourri Afro (with the tracks Depois que o ilę passar/ Brilho de beleza/ Ladeira do pelô), Pot-Pourri Timbalada (Beija-flôr and Mimar vocę), besides themes from the prior CD, which were not worked out before, like Ęi Brother, Xi do Terra and Bye Bye, together with the unissued tracks Caldeirăo do Terra, Sonho de Menino, Aninha and “Bicho Solto”, a working title for a track on the new CD. Altogether we find 14 tracks incorporating rhythm patterns which marked an era of the “música popular brasileira”. That is what Terra Samba is about: the group manages to captivate the audience on their musical journey, obtaining great respect from both the public and critics. This is a true show, the “Show da Terra”, a project which would not have been possible without the participation of the Som Livre label. The definite career of Terra Samba took off with the first CD in 1995, when “Terra Samba Faz Bem” was issued, soon followed by “Deus é Brasileiro” and “Liberar Geral” from 1996 and 1997 respectively. The breakthrough came with "Terra Samba ao Vivo e a Cores". The tracks "Liberar Geral" and "Carrinho de Măo" were played on heavy rotation by Brazilian radio stations and took the Brazilian audience by storm – the recording spent many consecutive months on the bestselling lists. Terra Samba became a Brazilian national mania. Sold-out concerts were soon followed by critical acclaim, and Terra Samba was chosen “Newcomer of the Year 1998” in the Group category. The group also received the award for “Best Show 98” from the Multishow / Globosat channel. In that period, the group began to intensify its international career. The group started the year 1999 by issuing "Auę do Terra", began the new Millenium with "Sinal Verde" and issued “Ao Vivo 2 – Na Manteiga” in 2001, this latter album including the smash hit “Manteiga”. Ever since, the group went on collecting gold, platinum and diamond records and even managed to earn a double-diamond award for the phenomenal sales of Terra Samba ao Vivo e a Cores. As a consequence of the prestige earned nationwide in Brazil, the group started a prolific international career. Reynaldo’s experience in fronting the group, playing the most different audiences in and outside of Brazil, revealed a vocalist which has the audience in his hand, with a repertoire immensely exciting to any die-hard carnival fan following the group in the typical parades. Up to now, the group looks back on four European and two US tours, as well as performances in the “Cono Sur” countries. We would like to recall the good vibes the group was able to generate at the 33rd edition of the Montreux Festival (Switzerland), as well as at the other big festivals in which the group took part while travelling Europe: the Netherlands (Carnival of Rotterdam), Belgium (Sfinks Festival), Italy - Rome (Festival "La Fiesta", third time) and Milan (Festival Latino de Milano, fourth consecutive time), France - Martigues (Overture Festival), Germany -Tübingen (Festival Viva Afro-Brasil, second time), Mettmann (XI Festa Brasileira, third time) and Munich (Muffathalle, second time), Switzerland - Zurich (El Cubanito, fourth consecutive time), Portugal – Lisbon, Oporto, the Azores and the Algarve, as well as Cape Verde (Africa). The 2003 European Tour could not have been better. The great success the Terra Samba group obtained at the many shows and festivals, where it sent many an audience into ecstasy through its contagious rhythms and the sheer beauty of its capoeira performances, is the recognition of its hard work in Bahia, Brazil and the whole world. In 2004, Terra Samba intensified this work, especially in Portugal, by publishing its new CD “Show do Terra Samba” through the Som Livre label, but also by taking to the road for the fifth consecutive year, playing in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, etc.
